What you can do to begin your own journey of self

A valuable first step in change is wellness. I use lessons taught by wellness professionals and customize them for your particular needs and goals. Begin to envision yourself more fully integrating wellness into your own lifestyle. Much of our experience is a culmination of a great number of factors: our health, fitness, nutrition, relationships, creative expression, work or career, hobbies and interests, education and access to information and resources, the toxicity of our environment, water, and air, access to the natural environment…the list continues. I encourage you to consider applying six simple principles to your life, beginning today!

According to health and wellness professionals, there are a few fundamental life style choices that make a significant difference and require very little cost or time. Begin today to make 'living well' a part of your psyche. The acronym that I have designed to help you remember these most important practices is BOUNTY:

  • Breathe
    • Practice deep breathing every morning, working up to a full ten mintues of mindful attention to your breath.
  • Outside
    • We need about 15 minutes of sunshine on our bare skin each day to activate the nutrients that fight depression and anxiety. I encourage you to get outside in the sun, warm or cold, before, after or during your lunch and lift up your shirt sleeves and pant legs for 15 minutes of sun bathing.
  • Universe
    • Engage in the energy of the universe. Participate in at least one healthy inter-personal relationship and stay connected. Seek connection within your community as a volunteer, become active in an interesting hobby, or join a spiritual or support group.
  • Nutrition
    • Fruits, vegetables, and whole grains! Add just one of these whole foods to each meal today. Remember to drink 8 glasses of water throughout your day.
  • Take a Walk
    • Try to take a 20 minute walk each day, or start with simple strategies such as parking at the far end of the lot on your way into work or the store.
  • You Imagery
    • Picture yourself happy and healthy, and surround yourself with beautiful images, flowers, nature…
